Morning Unravels the Truth 🌥 — Bethany's Suspicion Turns Into Panic
The first rays of sunlight filtered through the living room blinds, forming soft lines across the floor. The house was unusually quiet, too quiet for Bethany’s comfort. She woke up with a heaviness in her chest — not physical, but emotional, as if the silence itself was warning her of something she didn’t know yet.
Bethany slowly sat up, rubbing her eyes. Maybe coffee would help, she thought. But even caffeine couldn't fix the uneasy feeling that had settled overnight. There was still something bothering her — the purse. The expensive purse that Brooke claimed was a gift for Destiny last night.
Where did she even get the money? And why was Larry so secretive yesterday?
Her thoughts began knitting themselves together, forming questions that demanded answers.
Bethany Approaches Brooke 👜
Bethany walked straight to Brooke’s room. She could hear Brooke humming softly, scrolling on her phone.
Bethany knocked lightly.
Bethany: “Good morning. Can we talk for a minute?”
Brooke (looks up, surprised): “Sure, Mom. Everything okay?”
Bethany stepped inside, arms crossed, her face calm but eyes sharp — searching, noticing.
Bethany: “Yesterday… the purse you gave Destiny. Where did it really come from?”
Brooke: “Uh… Larry bought it, remember? He said it was for Destiny to make her feel welcome.”
Bethany stared at her for a long second.
A well-chosen gift. Expensive. Thoughtful.
Too thoughtful.
Especially coming from Larry — who never spent without discussing it first.
Bethany: “And Larry? Have you seen him this morning?”
Brooke frowned. “No. He’s not in his room. I thought he was with you.”
A cold shiver crawled up Bethany’s spine. The silence, the purse, Larry’s phone being off last night — it was all starting to align into something dangerous.
Something Feels Wrong… Very Wrong 😰
Bethany walked through every room — living room, kitchen, hallway — calling his name.
No Larry.
No sign of him.
And strangely… no sign of Lynette either. Or her son.
Bethany’s heart skipped.
Was Larry with them? At this hour? Why?
She stepped outside, scanning the driveway. The car that Larry usually drove was gone. Her breath tightened.
No. No, he wouldn’t do that. He wouldn’t go with Lynette without telling me.
But every piece of evidence whispered the same answer.
He might have.
Gathering Information 🔍
Determined, Bethany grabbed her phone and dialed neighbors, then Larry’s co-worker, then Lynette’s landlord — anyone who might know where they’d gone.
Bethany (on phone, trying to stay calm): “Hi, this is Bethany… Have you seen Larry this morning?”
Voice on other end: “Oh yeah, I saw him leaving with Lynette and her son earlier. Looked like they were heading out together…”
Bethany froze.
It felt like someone pulled the ground from beneath her feet. Her throat tightened and her pulse raced.
Larry. With Lynette. Early in the morning.
Confirmation hit like a knife.
Her eyes burned. Anger. Betrayal. Fear. All at once.
The Phone Call 📞💔
Hands trembling, Bethany dialed Larry.
Ring.
Ring.
No answer.
She tried again — this time her voice shaking from emotions she couldn't contain.
He finally picked up.
Larry: “Hello? Bethany, what’s—”
Bethany (interrupting, voice weak & emotional): “Larry… where are you? Come home. Please… I don’t feel well.”
Larry went silent, startled by the urgency in her tone.
Larry: “What happened? Are you okay?”
Bethany: “No… I’m dizzy. My chest is tight. I feel like I might faint. I… I need you. Please come home. Take me to the hospital.”
A pause.
Larry: “Bethany… I— I’m with Lynette right now.”
Hearing it directly shattered something inside her. Tears welled up.
Bethany (voice breaking): “I know. Someone told me. Larry, please… I don’t care where you are. Just come home right now. I need you.”
She wasn't faking — the stress genuinely made her light-headed. Her hand shook so badly she had to sit down.
Bethany whispering: “Larry… please. Don’t leave me like this.”
Larry’s Reaction & Sudden Guilt 😳
On the other side of the line, Larry was stunned. His guilt poured in instantly. He hadn’t expected her to find out — and certainly not like this.
Larry: “Bethany… don’t cry. I’m coming. Give me ten minutes. I’ll be there.”
He sounded conflicted — torn — but worried.
Bethany: “Hurry… please.”
She ended the call slowly, holding the phone to her chest as silent tears rolled down her cheeks. The room blurred as her breathing grew heavier. The fear of losing her husband — to another woman — felt like it could break her completely.
Waiting in Silence… The Calm Before the Storm 🌧
Seconds felt like minutes. Minutes felt like hours.
Destiny peeked from the hallway, confused. Brooke watched her mother, concern growing on her face.
Bethany wiped her tears, trying to compose herself.
Bethany (softly to herself): “If he walks through that door… things will never be the same again.”
She wasn’t just calling him home.
She was calling him to face the truth.
To see her pain.
To choose.
