Bethany will warn Larry, “If you give money to Sharra, I will leave the house.”

The room was tense, filled with an almost tangible weight that made the air feel heavier than usual. Larry leaned against the kitchen counter, trying to keep his tone casual, but the words he was about to say carried more gravity than he realized.

“Bethany…” Larry began, scratching the back of his neck nervously. “I’ve been thinking… I’m going to give Sharra $650 every month.” 💵

Bethany froze mid-step, her eyes widening as if the words had physically struck her. “Wait… what did you just say?” she asked, her voice a mixture of disbelief and fury. 🥴

Larry raised his hands slightly, trying to calm her before she erupted. “I mean… it’s just to help her out with her new place. It’s not a big deal…”

Bethany took a deep breath, trying to process the information, but her mind was racing. She walked over, putting a hand on the counter for support, her face a mixture of shock and frustration. “Larry… Sharra isn’t your wife! 😳 She’s your ex-wife. Your ex! How could you even think about giving her money every month?”

Larry opened his mouth, attempting to justify his decision, but Bethany wasn’t done. Her voice grew sharper, more pointed with each word. “Do you even realize what this means? It’s like you’re treating her like she’s still part of your life, still part of your responsibilities. And honestly… it feels disrespectful to me. To us.”

Larry swallowed, realizing he had underestimated Bethany’s reaction. “I… I didn’t think of it that way,” he admitted, his tone softer now. “I just… I wanted to help. She’s in a tough spot…”

Bethany shook her head, her eyes narrowing as she tried to control the storm inside her. “No, Larry. You don’t get it. If you give Sharra money, I can’t stay here. I can’t live in a house where my partner is still financially supporting his ex. That’s not how I see a relationship, and it’s not what I signed up for. 😤”

Larry blinked, stunned. He hadn’t expected her to threaten leaving. “Wait… are you saying… you’d actually leave?”

Bethany’s gaze was steady, unwavering, as if she had made up her mind long before he even spoke. “Yes, Larry. I’d leave. I love you, but there are boundaries, and this… this crosses the line. If you go ahead and give her money, I’m gone. I can’t compromise my self-respect, my peace, or our home over your ex.”

Larry ran a hand through his hair, torn between wanting to help Sharra and not wanting to lose Bethany. “Bethany… I didn’t know you’d feel this strongly about it. I thought… maybe you’d understand that it’s just helping her out, nothing more.”

Bethany took a step closer, her voice softening slightly but still firm. “Larry… helping her isn’t the problem. The problem is how you’re doing it and what it represents. Every time I think about that $650 leaving our household and going to her… I feel like our life together is being undermined. Do you see what I’m saying? 😔”

Larry’s shoulders slumped as he realized the depth of her feelings. “I… I see it now. I honestly didn’t mean to upset you. I thought I was just being responsible, being kind. But I didn’t realize it would hurt you like this.”

Bethany’s lips pressed into a thin line. “Kindness is great, Larry, but there are limits. And this… this is a boundary I can’t cross with you. If Sharra gets that money, I can’t stay in this house. I’d feel like my trust and my feelings don’t matter. And I love you too much to live like that.” 💔

Larry was silent for a moment, processing her words. He looked into her eyes and saw the seriousness of her stance. “Bethany… I don’t want you to leave. I… I need to figure this out.”

Bethany nodded, though her jaw was still tight. “Good. I hope you do. Because I can’t compromise on this. I won’t. You have to choose—me, this home, our life… or Sharra. That’s the reality of it. And I need to know that you see how serious I am.”

Larry exhaled deeply, feeling the weight of the situation settle onto his shoulders. “I… I hear you, Bethany. I promise I’ll think long and hard before making any decision. I don’t want to hurt you or jeopardize what we have.”

Bethany’s eyes softened slightly, though the tension didn’t fully leave the room. “I love you, Larry. But if this money goes to her… I’m leaving. That’s all there is to it.”

Larry nodded, silent, his mind spinning with possibilities, realizing that some choices carry consequences that money alone cannot fix. And in that moment, he knew he had a decision to make—and it wasn’t just about money; it was about love, respect, and the home he shared with Bethany. 🏡💔
