Title: The Gift That Changed Everything
The evening sun dipped low over the courtyard as Delicia stood beside the fountain, scrolling her phone. She was waiting for Iman, unaware that destiny had other plans. The air felt charged, like the calm before a storm π .
Delicia (muttering): “Where is he? He said five minutes. It’s been twenty.”
Footsteps echoed behind her. She turned, expecting to see Iman alone. Instead, a sleek black car rolled into the courtyard and stopped right in front of her. The engine purred, powerful and confident. Delicia’s eyes widened.
The driver’s door opened. Iman stepped out, dressed in a sharp navy suit, his expression unreadable.
Delicia: “Iman? What is… whose car is this?”
Before he could answer, another figure emerged from the passenger side. Shayla. Elegant. Calm. Smiling.
Shayla: “Good evening, Delicia.”
Delicia froze. Her heart skipped a beat.
Delicia: “Shayla? What are you doing here?”
Iman walked to the front of the car, placed a hand gently on the hood, and looked at Shayla with quiet intensity.
Iman: “This is for you, Shayla.”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He opened it. Inside was a car key, shining under the fading light π✨.
Iman (firmly): “I bought this car for you.”
Silence fell like thunder.
Delicia’s breath caught in her throat.
Delicia: “What… did you just say?”
Shayla stared at the key, stunned.
Shayla: “Iman… you didn’t have to do this.”
Iman: “I wanted to. You’ve stood by me when no one else did. This is my way of saying thank you.”
Delicia stepped forward, her voice trembling.
Delicia: “In front of me? You chose to do this in front of me?”
Iman finally looked at her. His eyes were serious, not cruel, but distant.
Iman: “You deserve the truth, Delicia. Not excuses.”
Shayla hesitated, glancing between them.
Shayla: “Maybe this isn’t the right moment—”
Delicia (cutting her off): “No, let him speak. I want to hear everything.”
Iman took a breath.
Iman: “You and I… we’ve been pretending. You wanted a future built on dreams. I needed someone who understood my reality.”
Delicia’s eyes filled with tears π.
Delicia: “So the car is the price of loyalty?”
Iman: “It’s a symbol of appreciation. Not a trade.”
Delicia: “Then what am I? Just a chapter you’re done reading?”
Shayla finally spoke, softly but clearly.
Shayla: “Delicia, I never meant to hurt you.”
Delicia: “But you did. Both of you did.”
She turned back to Iman.
Delicia: “You could have told me. You didn’t have to humiliate me like this.”
Iman’s jaw tightened.
Iman: “Sometimes the truth hurts more when whispered than when spoken out loud.”
Delicia laughed bitterly.
Delicia: “So this is your truth? A luxury car and a goodbye?”
Shayla held the key in trembling fingers.
Shayla: “Iman, I can’t accept this if it means breaking someone like her.”
Iman: “You’re not breaking her. Life is.”
Delicia wiped her tears and straightened her back.
Delicia: “No, Iman. You’re breaking me. And the worst part? You’re doing it without regret.”
For the first time, Iman hesitated.
Iman: “That’s not true.”
Delicia: “Then stop.”
Silence again.
The wind brushed through the courtyard. The fountain whispered in the background π§.
Iman looked at Shayla.
Iman: “Take the keys.”
Shayla looked at Delicia, guilt heavy in her eyes.
Shayla: “I… I don’t know what to say.”
Delicia stepped back.
Delicia: “Say nothing. Just drive away.”
Shayla slowly closed her fingers around the keys. The metal clicked softly.
She walked toward the driver’s side, paused, and turned.
Shayla: “Delicia… I’m sorry.”
Delicia didn’t answer.
Shayla entered the car. The door shut. The engine started.
Iman watched silently.
As the car rolled out of the courtyard, Delicia finally spoke, her voice steady but hollow.
Delicia: “You gave her a future.”
She turned to Iman.
Delicia: “And you took mine.”
Iman said nothing.
Delicia took one last look at him.
Delicia: “Remember this moment. One day, you’ll realize what you lost.”
She walked away, her footsteps echoing with quiet strength π.
Iman stood alone beside the empty space where the car had been.
And for the first time that evening, the silence hurt more than any words ever could.
