Larry will tell Bethany, “I’m fed up with the daily fights, so I’m going to Montana for some relaxation.”

“Montana Is Not an Escape”
Larry stood near the window, staring at the dark Atlanta skyline 🌃. The house was unusually quiet, but the tension between him and Bethany felt louder than any argument they had ever had. His shoulders were heavy, his mind exhausted.
Bethany walked into the living room, arms crossed, already sensing something was off.
“You’ve been quiet all evening,” she said sharply. “What now?”
Larry took a deep breath 😮💨. “Bethany, I’m tired. I’m really tired.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Tired of what? Talking? Or hearing the truth?”
Larry turned to face her, his voice calm but firm.
“I’m fed up with the daily fights. Every single day, it’s something new. I can’t breathe in this house anymore.”
Bethany scoffed. “Oh please. Don’t act like I’m the only problem here.”
“I’m not saying that,” Larry replied, rubbing his forehead. “But I need space. I need peace.”
Bethany’s eyes narrowed. “What are you trying to say?”
Larry hesitated for a second, then finally said it.
“I’m going to Montana for some relaxation.”
The room went silent 😳.
“Montana?” Bethany repeated slowly. “You think you can just pack your bags and run away?”
“It’s not running away,” Larry said quietly. “It’s survival.”
Bethany laughed bitterly 😂. “Survival? So I’m the danger now?”
Larry stepped closer. “Bethany, I wake up stressed. I go to sleep stressed. I can’t keep living like this. Montana is calm. Quiet. I just need time to think.”
Bethany’s voice rose. “And what about me? You leave, and I’m supposed to just sit here like nothing happened?”
“This isn’t about punishing you,” Larry replied. “It’s about saving myself.”
Bethany’s anger slowly turned into hurt 💔. “Every time things get hard, you choose distance.”
Larry shook his head. “No. I’ve stayed. I’ve tried. But you don’t listen. Every conversation turns into a war.”
Bethany’s hands trembled. “So you’re choosing mountains over your wife?”
Larry paused, the question cutting deep. “I’m choosing sanity.”
She looked away, blinking back tears. “Don’t expect me to be the same when you come back.”
Larry picked up his jacket. “I don’t expect anything. I just need silence… even if it’s temporary.”
Bethany muttered, “You think Montana will fix you.”
“I don’t know if it will,” Larry replied honestly. “But I know staying here is breaking me.”
As Larry walked toward the door 🚪, Bethany suddenly spoke.
“And don’t forget—problems follow people, not locations.”
Larry stopped but didn’t turn around. “Maybe. But sometimes distance shows the truth.”
The door closed behind him with a soft click 🔕, leaving Bethany alone in the house that suddenly felt too big and too empty.
Montana
The air was crisp ❄️. Snow-covered mountains surrounded Larry as he stepped outside the cabin. For the first time in months, his phone was silent. No arguments. No accusations.
He whispered to himself, “This is what peace feels like.”
But even in Montana, Bethany’s voice echoed in his head.
Back in Atlanta, Bethany sat on the couch, scrolling through old photos 📱. Smiling pictures, fake happiness, forced moments. She sighed.
“Maybe I pushed too hard,” she admitted quietly.
Days passed. Larry felt lighter, clearer. One night, he called Bethany.
“Did Montana fix you?” she asked sarcastically.
“No,” Larry replied softly. “But it helped me understand.”
“Understand what?”
“That we can’t keep hurting each other and calling it love.”
Bethany stayed silent.
“I don’t want to fight anymore,” Larry continued. “I want respect. Peace. Partnership.”
Bethany swallowed hard. “And if I can’t give that?”
“Then Montana won’t be the problem,” Larry said gently. “Our choices will be.”
The call ended, not with anger, but with realization 🤍.
Montana wasn’t an escape.
It was a mirror.
