A warning disguised as truth. A choice slipping away. And a silence that cuts deeper than words.

The Quiet Drop

Bethany: “That’s not fair.”

Her voice dropped to a whisper.

Ami sighed, and for the first time, something softer broke through her composure.

Ami: “Fair doesn’t exist when you’re trying to survive.”

Ami: “I learned that the hard way.”

A Warning, Not a Threat

Lynette stepped forward.

Lynette: “You don’t get to threaten her.”

Ami: “I’m not threatening.”

Ami: “I’m warning.”

Bethany felt tears burn behind her eyes.

No Choice Left

Bethany: “You’re treating me like I don’t get a choice.”

Ami paused.

Ami: “I’m treating you like someone I recognize.”

That hit harder than anything else.

Bethany clenched her fists.

Bethany: “And what about how you treat people who are like you?”

The Silence Between

Ami didn’t answer right away.

The silence stretched.

Kelley watched, torn, her face pale.

Lines Drawn

Lynette: (low, dangerous) “You think forcing her will fix something?”

Ami: (just as quiet) “I think ignoring it will destroy everything.”

Bethany took a step back.

Her heart pounded. Fear. Anger. And something else she couldn’t name yet.

The lines had been drawn. And no one in the room knew what would break first…
