When Dave tells Amber that he likes Shayla, Amber becomes emotional after hearing it. π
APR 13,2026
The room was unusually quiet, the kind of silence that felt heavy rather than peaceful. Amber stood near the window, her fingers lightly gripping the curtain as she stared outside, lost in her own thoughts. The golden glow of the evening sun brushed against her face, but it did nothing to warm the uneasiness settling in her chest. π
Behind her, Dave shifted slightly, his presence hesitant, almost uncertain. He had been standing there for a few minutes now, trying to find the right words—the kind that wouldn’t shatter everything between them. But deep down, he knew there was no easy way to say what he needed to say. π
“Amber…” his voice finally broke the silence.
She turned slowly, sensing something different in his tone. There was no softness, no comfort—just a quiet seriousness that immediately made her heart race. “Yeah?” she asked, her voice calm, though her eyes searched his face for answers.
Dave took a deep breath, running a hand through his hair. “There’s something I need to tell you,” he said, his gaze dropping for a moment before meeting hers again. The tension in the air thickened, wrapping around them like an invisible weight.
Amber felt her stomach tighten. “You’re scaring me… just say it.”
For a brief second, Dave hesitated. Then, with a quiet exhale, he spoke the words that would change everything.
“I like Shayla.”
The sentence hung in the air, sharp and undeniable. ⚡
Amber blinked, as if her mind refused to process what she had just heard. “What…?” she whispered, her voice barely audible. She searched his face, hoping—praying—that this was some kind of misunderstanding. But the seriousness in his eyes told her otherwise.
“I didn’t plan for this,” Dave continued quickly, his voice filled with regret. “It just… happened. I tried to ignore it, but I can’t lie to you anymore.”
Each word felt like a crack forming in Amber’s heart. π
Her lips parted, but no words came out at first. The silence between them grew louder than any argument ever could. Slowly, she stepped back, as if needing physical distance to breathe.
“So… all this time…” she finally managed, her voice trembling, “while I was here… trusting you… you were falling for someone else?”
Dave’s expression softened with guilt. “Amber, it’s not like that—”
“Then what is it like?” she cut him off, her voice rising despite her efforts to stay composed. Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, her pain now impossible to hide. π’
“I never meant to hurt you,” Dave said, taking a small step toward her.
But Amber shook her head, raising her hand slightly as if to stop him from coming any closer. “That’s the thing, Dave… no one ever means to hurt someone. But they still do.” π
A tear slipped down her cheek, followed by another. She quickly wiped them away, but they kept coming, betraying the strength she was trying so hard to hold onto.
“Do you even realize what you’re saying?” she continued, her voice breaking. “You’re telling me that everything we had… everything I believed in… wasn’t enough?”
Dave’s chest tightened. “It was real, Amber. You’re important to me—”
“Important?” she echoed, letting out a soft, pained laugh. “That’s not the same as being loved.”
The words hit him harder than he expected.
Amber looked away, wrapping her arms around herself as if trying to hold the pieces of her heart together. The room suddenly felt colder, emptier. π₯
“I stood by you,” she whispered. “I trusted you… I believed in us.” Her voice dropped even lower. “And now you’re telling me you like Shayla?”
Dave remained silent, knowing there was nothing he could say that would fix this.
Amber closed her eyes for a moment, taking a shaky breath. When she opened them again, they were filled with a mix of pain and quiet strength.
“You should’ve told me sooner,” she said softly. “Before I let myself feel this much… before I let myself hope.”
“I know,” Dave admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. “I’m sorry.”
But apologies felt empty now.
Amber nodded slowly, as if accepting a truth she never wanted to face. “Yeah… me too,” she murmured.
For a moment, neither of them moved. The silence returned, but this time it wasn’t just heavy—it was final. ⏳
Amber turned back toward the window, her reflection faintly visible in the glass. The same girl stood there, but something inside her had changed. Something fragile had broken.
Behind her, Dave watched, realizing too late the weight of his confession. He had chosen honesty—but honesty had come at the cost of her heart.
And as Amber stood there, quietly wiping away her tears, one thing became painfully clear—
Some truths don’t set you free… they break you first. π
